Why Is It Hard To Hear God?

It's actually easy to hear God once you clear the obstacles away.

Obstacles to hearing God

Thinking that what you hear is just your imagination

One of the bigggest obstacles to hearing God is thinking that what you hear is just your own thoughts. Skepticism, causes you to reject what you hear from the Holy Spirit.

Over dependence on other people to hear God for you

God is longing to have a close relationship with you. He wants you to hear Him for yourself even more than you do.

Being too busy

You will find it easier to hear God if you slow down and create space in your life. Be still enough to spend time deliberately listening for God's voice, and train youself to recognise when it's God speaking rather than your own thoughts.

Turn down the noise and turn up the volume!

God often speaks quietly, Elijah recognised that God was speaking in a whisper rather than in the raging wind, earthquake or fire.

Turn off the noise, tune out anything that could interfere with you hearing God.

Create favourable circumstances. Give God more opportunities to be heard, create an atmosphere that makes it easy to hear God anytime.

If you want to continue hearing God, make sure that you are willing to act on what He says to you.

It’s much easier to hear God when you are ready to receive what He has to say.

Don't expect to hear God if you are walking in disobedience

You need to make sure that you pay attention to the things God reveals. If you've heard God in the past and haven't acted on what you've heard, you need to put that right with God and let Him know that Him know that you're ready to hear and willing to do whatever he says.

There are many reasons why you might find it hard to hear God.

Make sure you're tuned to the right frequency and that there is nothing in the way of you having a good connection.

Selective hearing can be a barrier to hearing God. You will struggle to hear if you are expecting God to speak in a particular way. If He doesn't doesn speak in the way you expect you might not recognise God speaking to you. You need to be open to God speaking in any way He wants too.

Do you want to hear God enough to spend time waiting and listening, believing that He will speak?

Ask God to speak to you and wait for an answer. Be like Habakkuk - stand at your guard post, keep watch and see what He will speak to you.

Habakkuk 2:1-2
